Dr. Marrone is CEO and founder of Marrone Bio Innovations (MBI), which she started in 2006 to discover and develop bio-based products for pest management and plant health. In 2013, MBI listed on the NASDAQ.
She has served on the CALS Dean’s Advisory Council (2014-2017 and 2004-2010); the Cornell Alumni Admissions Ambassador Network (CAAAN) (2008-2009, 2011-current); CALSAlumniCareerLink (Active); Entrepreneurship@Cornell Celebration (panel member 2012); the Cornell University Council (2002-2006; 2008-2012); Cornell student FRESH, winter extern and summer intern program (sponsor 1994-present); and ad hoc, a locally organized Cornell alumni committee in the Sacramento region (1999-2005).
Dr. Marrone founded the biopesticide company, AgraQuest, in 1995 and served as its CEO, chairman and president until March 2006. Before AgraQuest, she was founding president for Entotech, Inc., a biopesticide subsidiary of Denmark-based Novo Nordisk. At Monsanto, she led the Insect Biology group. Dr. Marrone is treasurer of the Association for Women in Science and is founding chair of the Biopesticide Industry Alliance. She has a B.S. in entomology with Honors and Distinction from Cornell and a Ph.D. in entomology from North Carolina State University.
