WebDAV

WebDAV will allow you to access the files on your site by either setting up a connection in Dreamweaver 8 or right through your operating system. By connecting through your operating system, you will be able to drag and drop files to your remote folder without any additional software.

Getting WebDAV

If you would like to set up WebDAV connectivity to your site AND you already have your NetID, please email Assistant Webmaster, Adam Palcich at app35@cornell.edu. Please make sure to include your NetID in your email.

If you are not a Cornell alumnus and need a NetID, please send an email to app35@cornell.edu or contact your representative at Alumni House.

Connecting through Windows

A Windows Network Place is a remote folder on your computer. Once set up, you will be able to open the remote folder on your computer and drag and drop files back and forth right through the Windows folder without any additional software.

To set this up, you will need a NetID and a special URL to your site. To obtain this special URL, you will need to contact our office. Please see 'Getting WebDav' for more details.

On your PC:

  1. Go to My Computer
  2. Go to My Network Places
  3. Go to Add a Network Place
  4. Follow the Add a Network Place Wizard
  5. When asked, "Where would you like to create this network place?"  go to Chooose another Network Location
  6. When asked, "What is the Address of this Network Place?" enter the URL you recieved via email.
  7. You will then be prompted to give that folder a name. Enter a name.
  8. To open the site, simply open the folder which will be located in "My Network Places"
  9. You will be prompted to enter your username and password, which will be your NetID and NetID's password.
  10. DO NOT HAVE WINDOWS SAVE YOUR PASSWORD.

Connecting on a Mac

You can connect to your site as a remote folder on your Mac. Once set up, you will be able to open the remote folder on your computer and drag and drop files back and forth right through the folder without any additional software.

To set this up, you will need a NetID and a special URL to your site. To obtain this special URL, you will need to contact our office. Please see 'Getting WebDav' for more details.

On your Mac:

  1. In the Mac Finder go to the Go menu
  2. Select Connect to Server
  3. Enter the URL you recieved via email as the server address
  4. You will be prompted to enter your username and password, which will be your NetID and NetID's password.
  5. To open the site, simply open the server icon which will be located on your desktop.
  6. Use the Eject command to disconnect from the server when you are finished.
  7. Before disconnecting, you may wish to create an alias of the server icon for this connection. Connecting through the alias will allow you to skip the first 3 steps of the instructions the next time you connect to your site.

Connecting through Dreamweaver 8

You can connect to your site through Dreamweaver 8 and upload and download files as you would with an FTP connection.

To set this up, you will need a NetID and a special URL to your site. To obtain this special URL, you will need to contact our office. Please see 'Getting WebDav' for more details.

In Dreamweaver:

  1. Go to your Files panel
  2. Go to Manage Sites
  3. Select New or Edit an existing site
  4. Go to the Advanced tab
  5. Select Remote Info
  6. Select WebDav as your Access
  7. Enter the URL you recieved via email as the URL
  8. Enter your username and password, which will be your NetID and NetID's password
  9. DO NOT HAVE DREAMWEAVER SAVE YOUR PASSWORD
  10. Fill out your Local Info accordingly
