Arriving early for the PCCW Annual Spring Weekend? Relax at home after your day's journey to Ithaca and have dinner with some extraordinary women at one of Cornell's 11 sorority houses. About 25% of undergraduate women are in sororities, which makes them the largest women's group on Cornell's campus! What Do Cosmology, the Aroma of Grapes, and Social Cognition Have in Common?
Answer: They are some of the research subjects explored by Affinito-Stewart Grant recipients. PCCW is extremely proud of the advancement opportunities they have provided to young female faculty at Cornell since 1992. This panel of past Affinito-Stewart Grant recipients will speak about their research and field work, and how the grants provided assistance in their careers. Audience discussion will include our 2009 award recipients.
- Rachel Bean, Assistant Professor of Astronomy, is working in the field of cosmology, the study of how the universe began and evolved into what we see today. She was a grant recipient in 2006.
- Justine Vanden Heuvel, Assistant Professor of Horticultural Sciences, includes in her research the cultural practices and physiology affecting the development of flavors and aromas in wine grapes. She received her grant in 2008.
- Vivian Zayas, Assistant Professor of Psychology, examines the cognitive-affective processes that regulate behaviors within close relationships. Her grant was awarded in 2008.
