President's Welcome Message

...continued from the home page.

We have many social and academic functions each year; about 300 alumni, their families and friends participated in Club events in the past year. Three functions are now traditions: a picnic in Regent's Park, the International Spirit of Zinck's Night in October, and Thanksgiving Dinner in November. All of these keep the alumni involved with the Cornell Abroad students in the U.K., thus creating some affinity for what the campus is like these days. Other events which come up periodically are participation in Fulbright Day (which involves interactions with high school students in this country who are considering universities in the U.S.; this event is coordinated through the Cornell Alumni Admissions Ambassador Network), lectures, cocktail parties, dinners, etc.

Our UK Scholarship Fund was inaugurated in April 1992 with a reception at the House of Commons. Our aim is to sponsor British students for either a summer school session or perhaps a full academic program at Cornell as part of the internationalization endeavour. Obviously, our abilities to raise the financial resources will dictate how extensive this program will become. We sent our fifteenth student to the summer school session at Cornell in June.
