On Sunday, March 30, 2003 from 10:00-12:30pm, members of the Cornell
Club of Hawai'i volunteered to help maintain the U.S.S. Missouri
and briefly toured the ship afterwards on Sunday, March 30, 2003
from 10:00-12:30pm.
Volunteer Activities:
The volunteering portion of the event lasted for approximately
3 hours and included swabbing the teak decks of the ship (that covers
40,000 square feet) with tanic acid/water mixture in buckets to
restore the decks qualities. Cold bottled water was provided
by the staff of the U.S.S. Missouri. Always hardworking, these Cornellians'
cleaned the entire Surrender Deck, and upper deck!
Mini-Tour:
Cornellians opted to walk around the Surrender Deck of the U.S.S
Missouri after the Surrender Deck and upper decks were fully cleaned
and looking beautifully restored, noting the Japanese Surrender
site, the Kamikaze Attack site, and the 16 major guns on the ship.
Cornell Club of Hawai'i's members enjoyed the event and look forward
to doing it again next year.
The Event
Flyer is included for your reference.
