"Human Spare Parts: Even Celebrities May Need Them"
In the field of human body repair, the latest science and technology involves "human spare parts" for repairing injured, diseased, or aged human body parts. Focusing on the use of human spare parts in cardiovascular, orthopedic, dental, and gynecologic/urological reconstruction, Professor Chu will provide a sample demonstration as well as introduce his new inventions related to the treatment of heart attacks. Professor Chu will also reveal the secret of how to convert an ex-weapons of mass destruction scientist from the former Soviet Union to the mission of life-saving biomedical inventions.

C.C. Chu is a professor and director of graduate studies in the Department of Textiles and Apparel in the College of Human Ecology and a founding member of the Biomedical Engineering program in the College of Engineering. He joined the Cornell faculty in 1978 after completing postdoctoral research on biomaterials for maxillofacial reconstruction at the Medical Center of the University of Alabama in Birmingham. He earned his Ph.D. in Polymer Science from Florida State University and his B.S. in Chemistry from Tamkang University. The recipient of 11 U.S. patents, Professor Chu is the inventor of 'Biodegradable, Bioactive, & Programable Hydrogels,' which was chosen as a semifinalist for the Discover Columbus Foundation Award competition. Professor Chu is co-author and editor of the book Wound Closure Biomaterials and Devices and over one hundred research publications.
