Summer 2007

Dear Cornell Alumni, Spouses, Parents and Friends of the University,

As we enter our 28th year of serving Cornell's Northern New Jersey alumni we can look back at a busy, successful and engaging year. Let me take a moment to say an emphatic thank you to all the Cornellians in our community who make the Club and our community one of the strongest in the nation.

Last year, our events had nearly 500 attendees. The year began with a member's wine tasting of different grapes from around the world conducted by David Boyko '84, and we ended with our annual dinner at the Madison Hotel with Professor Jeffrey Hancock discussing his research on truth and deception in electronic communications. Between those lively bookends, we collaborated with CALS on a discussion of food branding, "Coke vs. Pepsi," repainted a non-profit's offices on Cornell Cares Day, and held a sold out family bowling party.

This year's events look to be just as exciting. By popular demand, we begin again with a wine and cheese tasting, and reach out to young alumni through Zinck's Night in October. We will have a large block of seats for the Cornell BU Hockey game to be held at Madison Square Garden in November, hear a Cornell author talk on traveling and golfing in Bhutan, and arrange a short series of hikes in nearby parks and trails. We also expect to continue collaborations with CALS, the Johnson School, and CAAAN throughout the year.

I am privileged to serve with a broad group of Cornell alumni. Our club has active members, and board participation spanning every decade from the 1940s onward, many schools and majors, parents of current students, and a very large number of Cornell couples and active young alumni. This level of participation and fellowship represents our core. The driving force behind our community and our club is a passion for things Cornell. We are proud of the scholarship funds we provide to Cornell students each year, as well as our participation at every level of the Cornell Diaspora.

Our continued success relies on your participation and financial support. Please take a moment to complete the attached Membership Form and return it with your annual DUES for July 1, 2007-June 30, 2008. (We haven't raised dues since our founding in 1979.) Each membership helps us to build relationships with alumni, students and faculty to achieve the educational mission of this great university. I look forward to welcoming you personally at our events, and you are welcome to attend monthly board meetings, which are always "open."

Best regards,

Matthew Sola '80
