Annual Meeting and Faculty Speaker - Register Online!

"Roaming the Red Planet: Results from the Mars Rover Mission"

NASA successfully landed twin rovers on Mars in January 2004, in the most ambitious mission of robotic exploration ever attempted.  Cornell faculty, students, and staff are leading the team that designed the instruments, and that is operating the rovers and analyzing the data every day.  These rovers were responsible for the discovery of the presence of water on the planet - a finding so significant that Science Magazine proclaimed it the Breakthrough Discovery of the Year for 2004.
In this presentation, Associate Professor of Astronomy Professor James Bell will share his favorite images and stories from "inside" mission operations, and describe the major scientific findings made by the rovers at each site.  He will also place these results in the broader context of the history of water on Mars, and our quest to understand the potential for life on the Red Planet and elsewhere.

Tickets are $8 for members and & $15 for non-members and can be purchased online or by RSVPing by April 24 to John Eckel ’66 at 860-658-1947 or John.Eckel@Pinninvest.com.

The meeting will be held at the United Technologies Research Center auditorium. It is conveniently located off Route 84 in East Hartford, near the UConn football stadium. The theater is nearly IMax quality, allowing spectacular pictures of Mars and the Rover.
