                                                      Fall 2007
Dear Fellow Carolina Cornellians,

While working late last night, I caught part of The Blues Brothers and one line seemed pertinent, "We're getting the band back together." Although nether Dan nor I have recently been released from prison, we're happy to announce that we're getting the Club back together!

After a brief period of Club inactivity, something motivated Dan and me to respond to Elizabeth Stavis's note about getting involved. I replied to her note after passing through campus on a business trip in March. A lot of things have changed on the hill, while others have stayed the same, (including the great food at Joe's, too little parking, and the unforgettable sounds of the bell tower).

We held our first board meeting at the end of July and organized our first event as a reactivated Club, a Durham Bulls game in August. Based on great input from volunteers at the board meeting, we have planned some excellent events for the rest of the year, and we're working on more for 2008. We're trying to provide a diverse set of activities that will interest the wide range of alumni that call the Triangle area of North Carolina home. From the Spirit of Zinck's Night to fine art to sports to faculty speaking events, you should be able to find something that catches your eye.

Our regional Cornell Club, of course, needs your support both with your presence at these events, as well as with your contributions as members of the Club. Our funds go toward the cost of events, mailings and announcements, a few perks for you, and they help support our guests to the area. Just click here, print out the form, fill in the details and mail it in with your dues to support our activities.

If you have any interest in serving the Club in any capacity, please let us know. We have several open slots (check the list of Officers). Dan and I have been figuring out how to do all the open jobs and making do on our own, but would love your help, particularly if your have expertise handling the funds, keeping up with memberships, or programming events. Even if you would just like to take the lead planning just one event, we would greatly appreciate your help.

Thanks so much to all of you who have already shown interest in organizing and participating in Club events this year. Also, my special thanks to the organizers for the events listed on the Calendar Of Events. Remember that one of our most important goals is to ensure continuity of Club activity year after year.

I hope to meet all of you at one of our events this year.

Sincerely,

Jason B. Tanner '90                  Daniel Gajewski '81
