Letter from the President
Dear Cornell Alumni,
Last year the Cornell Lightweight Varsity Boat took second at the 2006
Royal Henley Regatta in England! In order for a varsity boat to make
it to Henley, the crew must take first at Eastern Sprints or Nationals.
In 2006 the Big Red took first at Eastern Sprints and Nationals. This
year, they have continued there winning streak taking second at Eastern
Sprints, first at Nationals, and second at the 2007 Royal Henley Regatta.
Only Princeton in the late eighties has been able to claim back-to-back
National Championships. Although this may just sound like facts to those
of you who are not part of Cornell rowing, to me it is what keeps the
Big Red flowing through my veins.
Whether you were a graduate or undergraduate student, an athlete, hotelier,
engineer, or architect, we all have a special tie to Cornell. Whether
it is memories of the clock tower, hours spent studying at Mann library,
or nights spent partying in college town, we all hold a special place
in our hearts for the Big Red.
As Atlanta alumni, we have a great opportunity to foster these memories
and connections. Over 1,500 Cornell alumni live in Atlanta. A large
number of these alumni populate the many events we offer through the
Cornell Atlanta Alumni Association. From the All Ivy Polo Match to Cocktails
in the Garden, we provide you with many opportunities to reminisce about
your RED roots.
I have met many wonderful people through the Cornell Atlanta Alumni
Association. Each of them reminds me of reasons why I attended Cornell.
In addition to fond memories, I thank the alumni association for the
many wonderful friends I have met.
As President of the Cornell Atlanta Alumni Association, I am proud to
say that the alumni here in Atlanta are an active and vibrant group.
The current board of directors is outstanding, and our membership is
growing daily!
I strongly encourage you to join our association, and I look forward
to seeing you at the many events we have scheduled this year! We have
added the ability for you to join the association online, and our many
events are posted on the website.
As always, you are welcome to contact me or any of the other board members.
Contact information is listed in the About Us section of the website.
Go Big Red!
