We’re back.
In the spring and early summer, unidentified medical problems led to our having to forego attending Reunion, and played a major role in our decision to give up the role of web-masters. We were delighted when Rick Davis offered to step in and take over the task. Two unexpected things then occurred. First, medical diagnosis is sometimes much more difficult than treatment, and we’re happy to report that we are now much improved. Second, Rick found that the strains of running three corporations, coupled with two major Malibu fires were simply too much to permit his web-mastering, and so, by mutual consent, we again took on that role. We’re pleased, and we hope you are too.
Reunion.
The Class of 1952 set an attendance record for 55th Reunions, to go along with our presently owned records for 35th and 40th Reunions. Congratulations to you all! You can see the list of all those who attended at:
http://registration.aad.cornell.edu/attended.cfm?class=1952&return=http://class%20of%201952.alumni Class members are identified with asterisks.
Additionally, follow the side panel link to our 55th Reunion page for pictures. Remember that many of our class were unable to attend, and would very much appreciate seeing some of the other pictures that you may have taken while there. So, PLEASE, send in photos so that they can be shared here online. We can never have too many. They can be sent as email attachments, or as prints which can be returned to you. If you can, identify those pictured, since the passage of time may have had a tendency to “slightly modify” appearances. If not, we’ll run them without captions.
Class Officers.
Follow the link on the side panel to see a listing of your new class officers, along with the final “Five-Year Report” of your outgoing co-presidents, Jan Hoffman McCulloch and Tom Foulkes. New Officers are elected every five years, and thus will serve until the next (60th) (gulp) reunion. Of particular note however, is the lack of the Class Historian, whose duties include the “...collection and storing of a written and pictorial account of class activities...The Historian will also work with reunion chairs for appropriate display of class history at reunions...” and with the Cornell Archives and archivists both in the collection and storage of memorabilia and documents, such as beanies, banners, scrapbooks, etc. As Historian, one has the opportunity to re-immerse oneself in “...those good old days on the hill”. Our new co-president, Paul Blanchard, has ‘inherited’ four years worth (1948-52) of the Cornell Daily Sun, which makes for fascinating reading as well as being a slice of history of our class--such materials definitely fall into the purview of the Class Historian (and Paul would love to move these volumes out of his garage!). Our past Historian, Carl Gortzig, has held that position for the past ten years, and is more than ready to turn the task over to someone who has a penchant for history, for records, for memorabilia, and most of all, a love of what made and continues to make our class unique. Those of you out there who are fascinated by the times in which we have lived--this is a grand opportunity to dig into history and memories. Drop any of us a note if you are interested in taking over this most necessary office, or send Carl Gortzig an email at: cgortzig@twcny.rr.com for further information.
In Memoriam.
There are 22 additions to the ever-growing list of deceased classmates, for a total of 508. They are marked with asterisks as new entries. Although we started with 1900 members in September of 1948, 1250 Seniors graduated in June 1952. We receive this information primarily from Cornell and occasionally from friends across the world. If you know of some new names to be added to the list, please contact us directly via email, and we will forward that information to Cornell.
